Jim Simons, owner of Vintage Redwood Company, has been collecting and recycling redwood
for twenty years. With his reserve of vintage redwood and time-tested construction
techniques, Simons hand crafts furniture for home and outdoor living areas. He builds his
inventory – piece by piece – during the winter and tries to add a new design
every year or two.According to Jim, "When I
remill the lumber, I am always looking for special elements to use as a certain component
of a project. My designs are influenced by the generous size, the grain character and the
color of the wood."
Jim enjoys watching people touch the wood and hearing
comments about how smooth the redwood feels and statements like "you don’t see
much quarter sawed oak anymore." |
